Bayside Park Group To Expand Events After Support From Developer

Mar 28, 2023

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A Bayside parks non-profit is going to be able to set up its neighborhood conservation efforts after receiving support from a local developer.

Cord Meyer Development became a sponsor of Friends of Crocheron and John Golden Park (FCJGP) this month, donating an undisclosed amount to support the non-profit's community events at a "Premier" level — a new tier of sponsorship created on behalf of the developer.

"Friends of Crocheron and John Golden Park is a volunteer-run organization that works closely with NYC Parks, but we rely on outside support to accomplish our many goals," said the group's president and founder, Jessica Burke, in a news release.

In the past, FCJGP has struggled to secure enough funding for its projects, Burke told Patch (an issue that impacts parks groups citywide), and turned to community events — like flower plantings and yoga classes — in order to bolster community buy-in.

"[If more people] enjoy the park that will also do things like help the Park's Department and Community Board realize how important Crocheron Park is," she told Patch.

Partnering with Cord Meyer, though, will also help expand the group's reach, she said.

"Having Cord Meyer as a partner will benefit our monthly service events, expand the reach of our historic archive, and enable us to show our appreciation to our volunteers with T-shirts and other items," said Burke.

This partnership is part of Cord Meyer's ongoing efforts to foster a positive relationship with neighbors and local organizations.

"We are proud of our deep connection to the community and actively seek partnerships with groups that are committed to improving the area for residents and visitors alike," said the development's vice president controller, Joseph Forgione.

The developer has consistently supported charitable local events, but more recently made headlines for a dispute with a longtime tenant at its Bay Terrace Shopping Center.

Cord Meyer plans to make an appearance at FCJGP's next event, a cleanup at Golden Pond on March 19.
