Recently I had the battery in my iPhone replaced. After two years of solid use, it was ready for a power transplant. However, even with a new battery, I still notice that my phone runs out of juice pretty fast, so it must be an issue for lots of people who rely on using their phones throughout the day.

To counter the need to recharge the gadgets we depend upon, like phones, earbuds and watches, Australian tech brand ALOGIC has released a range of modular gadget chargers in the form of its Matrix line.

The ALOGIC Matrix charging device ecosystem all share the same contemporary design and offer a bit more than the average power charger. All the Matrix products are MagSafe-compatible and will work with phones from Apple, Google and Samsung or any model certified for Qi wireless charging. For people with phones that aren't MagSafe compatible, ALOGIC supplies a magnetic support ring that can be stuck to the back of a phone enabling it to be charged using a MagSafe charger.

The Matrix modular system of chargers from ALOGIC lets the user mix and match. The charging docks ... [+] come with a MagSafe charging pod but you can buy 5,000mAh power banks to slot in that can charge a phone while taking a charge into the power bank.

There are five models in the Matrix Ecosystem, including a Matrix 5000mAh power bank with MagSafe wireless charging module that slips into the docking cradle of the Matrix 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 magnetic charging dock. The Matrix 3-in-1 dock has a side-mounted USB port that can be used to plug in an optional Matrix Apple Watch module. Also included in the Matrix range is a wireless charger with a car mount for clipping into the air vents of most cars.

Because the Matrix range of chargers is modular, users can combine modules to suit their charging needs, such as wirelessly recharging a phone while topping up the power bank by slotting the power bank module into one of the charging docks or car mounts.

One feature of the ecosystem I particularly liked is how the USB-C Apple Watch charger can be detached from the dock and used to top up a watch when traveling. Then when returning home, the Apple Watch Charger can be plugged back into the side port of the 3-in-1 wireless charging station so a phone, AirPods and Apple Watch can all be recharged up simultaneously.

All the ALOGIC Matrix range chargers support fast charging up to 15W. It's easy to buy extra power banks to keep a spare one in the bag ready for when your phone battery needs refreshing.

Verdict: The new ALOGIC Matrix range of wireless and MagSafe compatible chargers is innovative and well-made with tight tolerances for the fitting of docking items like the MagSafe charging unit or the 5,000mAh power bank. Everything fits together nicely. I can't think of any other modular systems that are so comprehensive. Even the RapidX Modulo 5 system I reviewed in May 2021 doesn't offer MagSafe compatibility. However, until there's a significant improvement in battery capacity, we will depend on frequent charging and power banks to keep our phones running throughout the day.
